Currents was one of my first sculpture commissions. This client in Madison, WI missed her childhood home in Oregon. She wanted a reminder of the creeks and streams and tactile shapes she remembered, and she had a particular spot in mind for it in her Midwest home.
Every day I feel my sculpture’s surfaces on my way up and down the stairs. It greets me like a dear friend, interesting, joyful, warm. It’s like the running water over pebbles in an Oregon stream, just like I asked for. It’s beautiful.
It keeps changing for me. One month or year there will be a particular part of the sculpture that seems particularly lovely and exciting. Then suddenly a whole new part of it draws my attention and I wonder how I could have missed it.
This sculpture makes me feel loved.
